Experimental fish fry hatchery

The experimental hatchery of Blue Linked is located in the centre of Utrecht, on the second floor of the municipal bicycle depot. At this unusual location, we used our broad biological knowledge and innovative techniques to carry out a succesful pilot in the culture of marine fish fry (turbot). A perfect example of urban farming with attention for animal welfare. We use the innovative DyMiCo water purification system, developed by EcoDeco, which has been successful in the culture of vulnerable marine organisms such as corals and sponges.

Free-range fish

Since we have experienced that the system also works for culturing fish fry, we feel there is an opportunity for the development of a new phenomenon: free-range fish. By free-range fish we mean cultured fish that is brought up under sustainable and animal friendly circumstances; a step necessary for the present aquaculture to make, just as stock farming did many years ago. The energy-saving, closed water purification system we work with might even be used for culturing fish in the desert or in office buildings. Our approach fits perfectly with the transition to a circular economy and promises a revolution in aquaculture.

Hatchery of the future

Whoever we consult about our ambitions, we are asked to present the business plan that will bring our free-range fish fry to the market. However, we feel it is too early for that. Because we are working with a game chaning technology, capable of pushing the present aquaculture in a totally new direction, additional tests are necessary. In stead of false promises, we stand for sound perceptions and realistic possibilities. Therefore, after the success of the Experimental fish fry hatchery, Blue Linked aims to establish a Hatchery of the Future. Here, we obtain knowledge and experience that is required in order to culture free-range fish fry for commercial purposes. We are searching to connect with like-minded investors and partners in e.g. Marketing & Sales, and we develop a plan for crowd funding.

The Hatchery of the Future is the ultimate playground for setting new standards in aquaculture. With an ever increasing world population, we feel it is necessary to meet the growing need for animal proteins in a sustainable and animal friendly way.
