Experimental fish fry hatchery

Blue Linked is a pioneer in circular aquaculture. For example, in our 'Experimental fish fry hatchery' we have carried out a succesful pilot in the culture of marine fish fry (turbot). Herein we use a unique water purification system, which has proven its effectiveness in the breeding of vulnerable marine animals such as corals and sponges.

Transition towards circular aquaculture

Since we have experienced that the system also works for culturing fish fry, we feel there is an opportunity for the development of a new phenomenon: free-range fish. By free-range fish we mean cultured fish that is brought up under sustainable and animal friendly circumstances; a step necessary for the present aquaculture to make, just as stock farming did many years ago. The energy-saving, closed water purification system we work with might even be used for culturing fish in the desert or in office buildings. Our approach fits perfectly with the transition to a circular economy and promises a revolution in the transition from traditional aquaculture to circulair aquaculture.

Hatchery of the future

Blue Linked's breeding center is located in Hazerswoude-dorp (picture left). A location that we are currently equipping in order to take steps towards the Hatchery of the Future: a concept that will provide the necessary knowledge and experience on circular culture techniques for marine organisms.

The Hatchery of the Future is the ultimate playground for setting new standards in circular aquaculture. With an ever increasing world population, we feel it is necessary to meet the growing need for animal proteins in a sustainable and animal friendly way.

Based on the natural principles of Blue Linked's culture system, it offers unique opportunities. Except for the sustainable culture of fish for consumption, it can also be used for enhancement of fish populations in the wild. The vital, genetically diverse fish that is the product of circular aquaculture is a most valuable replenishment for the marine ecosystem. Therefore, Blue Linked uses the following strategic vision to deploy its innovative techniques: 1 fish on your plate, 1 fish in the sea. An engaging vision that is copied by the Knowledge and Innovation Agenda 2020-2023 of the Dutch government.
